PRE-PHARMACY
Pre-professional requirements for pharmacy are available through the College of Science and Technology. Students may fulfill one and possibly two years at Southeast of the total five-year curriculum, then complete the training at a professional school. Although the first-year requirements at most pharmacy schools are similar, there are significant differences with some schools. Second-year requirements vary even more from school to school. Therefore, the student should be sure of his/her preferred school's requirements. The student should be aware that few, if any, pharmacy schools accept transfer students for the spring semester, so the student should plan his/her coursework accordingly.
Most pre-professional curricula place a strong emphasis on chemistry and mathematics. Biological science courses are usually required (but specifically not recommended for UMKC), as well as English and social science courses. Other electives, such as fine arts and computer science may be included. The student should use the specific requirements of the schools he/she would prefer to attend in planning a course of study.

Pre-Pharmacy students should consult with a Pre-Pharmacy Advisor,
Dr. Bruce Hathaway in the Chemistry Department, before enrolling.
NOTES:
1 Students not ready for MA139 should recognize that MA090 and MA095 (or equivalents) will not count as transfer credit to either pharmacy school. MA134 (College Algebra) can transfer as a general elective to St. Louis, but will not transfer for credit to Kansas City.2 Students are required to have a minimum of 9 hours of humanities/social science electives, such as sociology, psychology, history, government, music, art, or economics. This specifically does not include courses in the physical sciences (chemistry, physics, geosciences), biology, mathematics, or physical education. GS101 will count as 3 hours of this requirement.
3 Kansas City prefers for students to have MA140, but will accept MA139.
4 S. David Nunley Scholarship available for Pre-Pharmacy students. See Dr. Hathaway for more information.
